PMPA Trophy, 5th and 12th April, 2023 |
The PMPA Trophy
The PMPA Trophy is an individual competition and is scheduled to be played on 5 April.
In the past, this competition has been played on one night and involved individuals circulating to play with many partners.
The Committee has decided to introduce a new format for the competition this year and to play it over two nights, 5 and 12 April. However, members will not have multiple partners. Instead, to be eligible to win the PMPA trophy a member must play with a different partner on each of those nights. Apart from this, the competition will be our normal Wednesday competition.
Details are:
- It is not a pre-entry Competition.
- The usual competitions will take place and visitors are welcome.
- Table money is €5 per night.
- The usual prize money applies each night.
- To be eligible to win the PMPA trophy, a player:
- must be a member of St Jude’s Bridge Club.
- must play on both 5th April and 12th April but with a different partner on each of these nights.
To determine the overall winner, an average of the percentage obtained on 5 and 12 April will apply.

TCCBC Message re Bridge Centre Opening |
In the interest of the safety of our members a decision has been made by the TCCBC to enhance the air filtration system currently in place.
Consequently the Centre and St Jude’s Bridge Club will not reopen on the dates previously advised.
Subject to parts arriving on time and being installed in a timely manner, it is anticipated the Centre will be ready to be opened in early November.
The exact date for reopening will be announced closer to the time.
We will update this section of our website as further information becomes available.
Thank you for your patience in the matter and rest assured this is being done in the best interest in all members.

St. Jude’s Bridge Club Reopening
Deferral Notice
Monday, November 8, 2021
With the recent alarming increase in the number of COVID cases and NPHET strongly advising against any increase in socialising, the committee has decided to defer the reopening of live bridge for the moment.
The committee has worked along with the TCCBC putting in place what is necessary to reopen.
The committee will keep the matter under review and hopefully this delay will be short.
Members have been informed of this decision by email. Some members may have changed email address recently and as a result did not receive this email. If this is the case, please advise the secretary at stjudes@bridgewebsemail.com of your new email address.

President’s Address |
Dear Members.
I wish to inform you that I will be stepping down as President of St Jude’s Bridge Club. Our VIce President Tadhg O’Connell will take over this role from Wednesday, 26th May 2021.
Due to Covid, I have served a two-year stint rather than the usual duration of one-year. It certainly was ‘The best of times and the worst of times’ My first 10 months as President was so enjoyable. Our Wednesday nights ran like clock-work, thanks to our incredibly organised and hard working committee.
Along with the many competitions, we enjoyed a great Christmas party and a wonderful bridge week-end away in Kilkenny.
Then Covid struck and bridge and life as we knew it came to an end. A new acronym entered our vocabulary...BBO... We began immersing ourselves very cautiously into this new method of playing bridge. We were all novices! Eventually, with many trials and tribulations, we got the hang of it!
Nothing can match our physical club but St Jude’s has also a very successful BBO presence.
I feel a sense of pride that our online numbers have swelled to 348 members to date, and with on average, 210 playing every Wednesday, it has gone from strength to strength. For those members who do not play online, we are looking forward to meeting you again in our club, whenever we get the green light!
Our club is one of the largest Bridge clubs in Ireland with 360 members to date, and a continuous flow of requests to register.
We look forward to welcoming you formally and physically when we eventually get back together again.
We are saying farewell to four of our committee members. Our Honorary Secretary Dympna Smyth, our Ex Officio and Partner-Coordinator Frances Heffernan, our Refreshments Manager Joan Daly and our Website Manager Peter Heffernan.
Along with their specific roles, they have helped in so many other areas and worked tirelessly for the smooth running and enjoyment of our club.
The remainder of the committee will stay and continue in their roles and will as always display the utmost dedication and commitment to our members: Anne Howard, Marie Lyons, Margaret Keavey, Kevin Lahart, Marie Kennedy, Patricia Bonner, Aileen Redmond and Connie Keogh.
We warmly welcome a new committee member, Jim Kelly, who will take on the role of Honorary Secretary.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support of our club. Thank you too for the steadfast support you have shown me and our committee.
It has been a privilege and pleasure to serve as President of St Jude’s.
Sláinte agus sonas agus gach dea-ghuí daoibh go léir.
Best regards,
Marian Mc Guinness Logue.
