RIPON CITY BRIDGE CLUB NEWSLETTER June 2024

A warm welcome from your new committee Chris Wright – Chair, John Martin – Secretary, Steve Russell – Treasurer, John Blackett, Steve Knight, Christine Wright, Andrew Murday, Chris Edwards, Sally Walker

We would like to keep members up to date with a few events and notices.  Many of you who look at the website will be on the ball but if you haven’t been playing for a while here is your chance to keep up.

  1. Café Bridge – taking place every Tuesday morning 10-12 at the Claro Lounge in Ripon. A relaxed social bridge event with help on hand if required.

  1. Pro-Am Handicap afternoons

The last of this seasons Friday morning teaching sessions has now taken place and will recommence on Friday 13th September.  A number of the students have been coming to join in Café Bridge (see above) and as an extra stepping stone toward playing at the club we will be holding 2 Pro-Am afternoons.  The first on Friday 26th July and the second on Friday 30th August.  We hope many of you will join in this initiative, there are plenty of people with no NGS ratings and therefore great handicap scores so find yourself a partner and boost your score on the day.

  1. The EBU is promoting a week of events in September called ‘It’s a big deal’ in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK – more details to follow soon.

  1. Facebook Page – have you all seen the Ripon City Bridge Club’s Facebook page, if not please have a look – like, follow, share and comment.  The more people who are visiting, the more the word is spread.

  1. Competitions are you aware that there are 4 annual competitions running at the club?  Master Points, Individual, Pairs and Slams – details and a running total can be found on the website.  There is the potential for more competitions (with silverware to grace your mantlepiece!)  Suggestions gratefully received.

  1. Bridge Tables for Sale – we have a number of slightly wobbly (but not beyond redemption) tables looking for new homes.  If you would like one of these treasures please let a committee member know and it could be yours for a small donation of £5.

  1. Hosting – remember that Friday afternoons are hosted so even if you haven’t got a partner you will be guaranteed a game.
