Cynthia Allsop |
I'm sorry to announce that Cynthia has passed away. She passed peacefully sat in front of the television. Though a good age, her passing was unexpected, as she'd been playing bridge on the Thursday night.

IMPORTANT NOTE RE PAIRS COMPETITION |
This year’s Club pairs competition seems ill-fated.
Those playing in the qualification round last Monday know there was a problem with the arrow switch movement which, somewhat remarkably, the entire club didn’t notice on the bridge mates at the time.
Phil and Alan have spent a considerable time amount of time this week trying to unravel things. It is, however, impossible to create a new result which is fair to everyone. By way of explanation, the Bridgemates thought everyone was playing an arrow switch on round seven when, in fact, nobody was. On its own, this might have been retrievable to some degree (it would have still led to complications), but the problem was compounded by the fact that SOME tables apparently still played an arrow switch on round eight whilst other tables did not. This makes it impossible to unravel things and the percentages and placings currently shown on the website are, therefore, ENTIRELY INCORRECT.
A sub group of the committee has carefully considered matters and concluded there is no alternative other than to CANCEL this qualification session. We will re-schedule the whole competition again in 2025 as soon as the calendar allows, recognising that we have the pivot teams competition coming up.
The original error was an honest mistake but it illustrates the importance of people checking they have the correct people sitting in the correct direction at the start of each round.
