The club's Novice Pairs competition for the Morrie Marsh Trophy will take place on Thursday 15th May at 7.15pm at Oxford Bridge Club.
This competition replaces the usual Thursday evening Supervised Play session, and is restricted to 'Novice Pairs'.
We will play 14-18 boards at about 9 minutes per board. The entry fee is £4.00 per player. Masterpoints will be awarded.
Eligibility: This competition is open to Novice Pairs. In this context a ‘Novice Pair’ is a partnership in which both players:
- have fewer than 200 Masterpoints (that is, below Club Master)
- have not previously won this or any other club trophy, excluding the Roger Hughes Trophy
Pairs who do not meet the above criteria are welcome to play in the competition but they cannot win the Trophy.
Players with previous experience of playing duplicate bridge who have returned to the game after a long gap, and those holding a significant number of masterpoints from a non-EBU organisation, are not considered Novices for this event.
Please note also that only members of Oxford Bridge Club can win the trophy so please make sure that you have renewed your membership (if you had free membership as a student last year) or please do join the club if you want to be eligible for the trophy. Remember that all current Bridge for All students can apply for free membership. For further information on membership and to join please visit the Membership section or email the Membership Secretary. Membership is not required to compete though so please take part even if you are not a club member or don’t wish to join at this time.
If you have a regular partner that's great, just sign up together in a single booking as per usual. If not, please book as an individual and we’ll pair people up where we can. The event will be hosted so there will be someone to play with. Please note though that if you do play with a host you aren't eligible to win the trophy.
As this is a competition with masterpoints, on this occasion you will not be able to ask for help. Use of system/convention cards/notes are NOT allowed.
The qualifying Novice Pair with the highest score will win the trophy. The Trustees reserve the right to review the status of all competing players. To that end, the winners may not be announced on the night. The trophy will be awarded at the AGM in July.
Pre-booking is required - CLICK HERE TO BOOK. Bookings close at 7.10pm on the day.
