We must sadly report that:- Sharon Thomson, known professionally as Sharon Cavanagh, died recently after a short illness. Many of you will know Sharon from playing online on Tuesdays and in 'the other room' on Mondays in pre-Covid days. She enjoyed her bridge sessions, but never took them too seriously. Sharon had been a Court appointed child advocate for many years. Those children could not have had better representation.

Following our charity evening on Tuesday 3 December, a total of £210 has been donated to Cancer Research UK. This includes members' donations plus matching money from the Club. We have also been able to pay it with Gift Aid which will add a further 25%. Our thanks to all those who supported this worthwhile charity.

The MTBC Annual General Meeting (2024 AGM) was held at 7.00 pm on Wednesday 13 November 2024, online, over Zoom. DRAFT Minutes of the meeting are now available on the website (see News - Meetings).

Did you know that you can practice your declarer play on BBO - just log on to BBO, select 'Practice' and then 'Bridge Master' - there are 5 levels, each with several dozen hands and even the answers if you cannot solve the problem - and it's free.

We are running some free Taster Sessions in January 2025 in various Libraries in the local area (click title above for details).

We will be running our next Fast Track Course in March 2025 - see "Training Course Details" panel below - Fast Track is a more intensive course spread over 2 weekends - ie 4 days.

Committee Meetings

Committee Meeting 20 November 2024

Draft minutes are available to members in the Menu under News - Meetings or by clicking HERE.

Main points of the meeting were:-

A reminder that it is proposed to leave Table Money at £3.00 per session, but to increase the Annual Subs to £20.00 for 2025.

We are looking at ways of raising funds to purchase a Dealing Machine and/or Bridgemates for use at Face to Face venues.

The Club is undertaking further Training/Promotion events in 2025, including Improver Training available to all members, starting in January and then a further Fast Track course in March. We want to structure the development of new players so that they can take part in normal club duplicate sessions as soon as possible.

The Club is looking for a venue near Rainham (in Kent) for an additional F2F session.

Diary Dates:-

Tuesday 5 December - 7.30pm - Charity Night in aid of Cancer Reasearch UK - Online

Monday 9 December 2024 - 7.00pm - Christmas Party and Presentations, with Bridge afterwards.

The next Committee Meeting will be held on Wednesday 29th January 2025.

St.Luke's Methodist Church Hall, junction of St Williams Way and City Way, Rochester ME1 2BQ

Play starts promptly at 7:30 pm. Please arrive by 7.15.

Thursday Mornings

All Saints Parish Hall, Church Green (junction with Murray Road), Frindsbury, ME2 4HE.
Play starts promptly at 10.00 am. Please arrive by 9.45.

Congratulations to the following:- Most Improved Player Award 2024 - Andrew Thomas, Ladder Pairs Winners 2024 - Mai Monk/Del Reddick, Fred Hartwright Shield (Highest Percentage) - Bob Norrish/Derek Brighton 76.98%, Geoff Burton Cup (Highest Attendance) - Derek Brighton, and Jeremy Brewer/Andrew Thomas and Vess Stefanova/Michael Samwell who won the Les Robey Cup (Random Teams), which was held on Monday 18 November 2024.
