NOVICE CORNER

MEET CAT HULTZ

I grew up in Memphis and have never lived anywhere else. My educational journey began at Christ United Methodist Day School for elementary school and St. Agnes Academy for my later years. I grew up in East Memphis and was a tom boy as a child. I liked being outside and was a member of a swim team.

After high school, I attended and graduated from the University of Memphis with a BBA in Management Information Systems in 1999. My first job was as a programmer at FedEx where I had been an intern. I went on to get an MBA in finance from Christian Brothers University. Subsequently I worked at International Paper and Sedgwick where I am still employed. I moved from programmer into project management and currently manage a division of Systems Analysts and Project Managers.

I have one sister who is one year younger than me who lives in Cary, NC. I have one niece and one nephew who are also in Cary. I have two sons. Sam, who is 20 years old, attends Pittsburgh State University in Pittsburgh, Kansas as a sophomore this year. He plays on the football team as a defensive end, and I enjoy attending all his home games. My older son, Ben who is 24 years old, graduated from Christian Brothers University with a degree in education. He is a teacher at the Bowie Learning Center where he attended school for the majority his school life. He has autism and we are extremely proud of everything he has been able to accomplish.

I enjoy playing pickleball with a group of great women 3-4 times a week. And I have always been a gym rat, so I enjoy dance classes and lifting weights at the Germantown Athletic Center where I have been a member for years. I just recently bought a new camera and am looking forward to learning how to use it. I also enjoy nature, hiking, and kayaking.

I grew up playing cards with my extended family. We played pitch, booray, poker, spades, hearts to name a few. To this day a group of my cousins and I get together for a serious monthly poker game. My Dad was an excellent bridge player. Once my younger son left for college and I had more time, I talked my friend Karen into taking bridge lessons with me. I thought I would enjoy it, and it would be a great long-term hobby.

Traveling is also one of my hobbies. In recent years, I have been on a Mediterranean cruise which was a wonderful way to see many countries in Europe. Yellowstone, Zion, the Grand Canyon, and Horseshoe Bend have been trip destinations over the last couple of years. This year my son and I rented a camper van and drove, camped, and saw multiple destinations out west.  I also like visiting the Villages in Florida and plan to have a home there one day. I plan to stay there for the month of April this year. I also have a kayaking trip planned in June in the Ozarks in Missouri.
