About Hull Bridge Club
About Hull Bridge Club

Founded in the 1930's Hull Bridge Club, or to give it its full title The Hull & East Riding Contract Bridge Association is by far the longest established bridge club in East Yorkshire. During the early years the club met in several different venues before securing its own well appointed premises in the mid 1980’s, we have private, secure parking for up to 10 vehicles, and are comfortably able to accommodate 16 tables. Owning our own premises gives Hull Bridge Club the flexibility to respond to our members needs, such as hosting additional one-off events, or regular sessions as demand dictates.

Located on Spring Bank the club is ideally situated, close to Hull city centre and its principal transport links, in fact although buses stop directly outside the club its just a 10 minute walk to city’s intercity rail/coach and bus interchange, and a 5 minute drive to the A63/M62.

At Hull Bridge Club we are strong supporters of the English Bridge Union’s best behaviour at bridge initiative, and committed to excellence in everything we do.  Our aim is to provide the best possible service we can to each of our members in a safe, friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

In association with the Humber Bridge School, Hull BC offers new and novice players the most comprehensive and proactive learning experience available locally. Nowhere else will you find a better combination of structured lessons led by our EBU-qualified tutor and the regular supported sessions needed to practice and hone your newfound skills.

Or maybe you’d be interested in taking part in the many club individual, pairs and team events contested annually, more experienced players might like playing in the Hull & District teams of four, or even joining one the three Hull Bridge Club teams playing in the Yorkshire league.

So, whether you’re an absolute beginner, a social player, or you enjoy a more competitive form of the game, Hull Bridge Club is the right choice for you, and you'll always be sure of a warm welcome.

Learning to play Bridge at Hull BC

in association with the Humber Bridge School

Classes are led by Penny Joseph, an EBU-qualified teacher who has been playing bridge for 27 years (no time at all, then!). She says “We aim to build up your knowledge like bricks in a wall, so that you end up with a solid structure on good foundations, getting to grips with the basic system from the start."

Penny runs up to three bridge classes a week, each of  2 hours.

Each course consists of two sets of ten classes, each class reinforcing and developing the themes introduced earlier until you have a comprehensive and consistent system for bidding and playing successful bridge. Individual private group lessons can also be arranged.

Once you’ve been given the tools to succeed there’s no substitute for practice. Practice, practice and some more practice, so  we encourage our novice players by holding regular supported "dupLicate" practice sessions. Contact humber bridge school  for further details. This combination of structured lessons and supported practice sessions where you can hone your newfound skills is the key to your success. Supported practice sessions are open to anyone who wants to come along regardless of whether or not they are taking part in Penny’s lessons.
