A fantastic turnout by members for the annual Christmas Party on Monday, 16th December 2013 resulted in 17 full tables in play - that's about 88% of the total membership!

On arrival, members were greeted with a drink and settled into their seats awaiting the start of play.   For the mid-session interval members had provided a marvellous spread of savouries and sweets, which were attacked with relish by all!

A bridge Pivot Movement was played resulting in individual North, South, East and West high-score winners, each of whom were presented with prizes at the end of the evening.  Four consolation prize winners were also awarded to those finishing as close as possible to +/- zero.

Winners of the North, East & West main prizes and the four consolation prizes were presented by Chairperson Cathy Smith.  Chielf Tournament Director Robert Harber presented Cathy with her prize as the South high-score prize winner.

CONGRATULATIONS !
CONGRATULATIONS !

Many Congratulations to EBU 2013 Autumn Simultaneous Pairs contestants, Jenny Hemmings and Margaret Whipp.

Jenny and Margaret were the winners of the Horning Bridge Club event and finished a magnificent 10th overall nationally out of a total of 1,062 pairs competing from 58 clubs.

Each received a pen from the EBU in recognition of their achievement and Chairperson, Cathy Smith, presented this to Jenny.  Unfortunately, Margaret was unavailable for a photo.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING MONDAY 16th SEPTEMBER 2013 - RETIRING COMMITTEE MEMBERS

At this years' A.G.M. on the 16th September 2013 two retiring committee members were thanked for all their efforts in continuing to make Horning Bridge Club a friendly and pleasant Club for all bridge players.  A 'thank-you' gift of a plant and chocolates for both were donated by the Club.

Anne Goddard.  Anne announced her retirement from the role of Catering Officer earlier in the year and has been replaced by Diane Harber. Unfortunately, Anne was absent on the night and could not receive her gift - it will be presented to her later.

Maureen Gittins. Maureen announced her retirement from the role of Secretary and will shortly be replaced by Glenny McAndie.  However, Maureen is not leaving the Committee completely - she was elected and welcomed as a General Committee Member at the A.G.M.

HBC AWAY DAY MONDAY 14th JANUARY 2013
  • East Winner James Cox
  • North Winner Pat Whittle
  • South Winner Matthew Jackson
  • West Winner Jenny Pearce

Once again the Horning Bridge Club annual Away Day was held at the Holiday Inn, Norwich and, as in previous years, proved to be a very satisfactory venue.

Members began arriving at 10:00 am and were treated to coffee, tea and biscuits while settling down in their places at the bridge tables.  Chairperson Cathy Smith outlined the approximate timetable for the days events.

Bridge commenced at about 10:30 am and a Pivot Movement was played so that there would be separate North, South, East and West winners at the end of the session.  During the session small spot-prizes were awarded to randomly-selected table seats.

The bridge was adjourned mid-session so members could enjoy the wonderful cavery buffet provided by the Holiday Inn.  There was plenty of choice with something to satisfy most tastes.

Bridge continued after lunch until mid-afternoon when winners prizes were presented by Chairperson Cathy Smith.

NORTH WINNER: Pat Whittle (3030)  SOUTH WINNER: Matthew Jackson (4650)

EAST WINNER: James Cox (1240) WEST WINNER: Jenny Pearce (820)

An additional prize was awarded to Tessa Shingler, who had the "unluckiest" score of the day! (Unfortunately, the photo of Tessa receiving her prize from Cathy is not available).
