Farnham Bridge Club is regarded as one of the premier clubs in the area with members from other towns in the Waverley Borough, West Surrey and North East Hampshire. It is affiliated to the Surrey County Bridge Association (SCBA) and the English Bridge Union (EBU). Visitors and potential new members are always welcome. Email our secretary Mary Nolan (farnhambc@gmail.com) in advance for details.
Members can enjoy playing duplicate Contract Bridge in accordance with the EBU rules and EBU membership is now included.
Bridge is currently being played online using RealBridge for our main club sessions (see notice on the right for details). BCL can be used for those who wish to play individual pairs or club league games.

| EBU Festival in aid of Cancer Research UK - 9th September 2024 |
To all participants in our Monday Realbridge sessions:
Farnham Bridge Club will be holding a special Realbridge session on Monday 9th September in aid of Cancer Research UK, as part of the wider EBU Festival of Bridge.
The play will be exactly as our normal Realbridge Monday sessions, but no charges will apply for participants. Instead, please donate whatever sum suits you to the EBU fundraising page for Cancer Research UK. Just click on the this link, and then click on the "DONATE" button, which is on the top right hand side. The EBU will also be waiving their normal UMS charges and donating them instead to Cancer Research UK. Hopefully the EBU will raise a huge amount for Cancer Research UK.
There is no need to pre-register for the event. Just turn up with your partner.

| FARNHAM CAFE BRIDGE - WED SEPT 11th |
Farnham Cafe Bridge will take place on Wednesday 11th September, in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. Entries open on 17th July; pre-register by email to michael@picturehouse.org.
The cost is £30 to £45 per player, including bridge and lunch. There are eight venues in close proximity. The event is great fun. Please register as soon as possible after 17th July, as the event may well be sold out.

| Sylvia Rose 2024/2025 |
The Sylvia Rose is Farnham Bridge club's premier teams event. Please submit your team entries to Mike O'Donnell (mike@lizandmike.co.uk) and copy Simon Foale (simonjohnfoale@gmail.com). Teams may consist of 4 to 7 participants.
The Sylvia Rose will run from October 2024 to March 2025. If we have 12 teams again (as last year) there will be two divisions, with 5 divisional matches. The top three teams from each division will play in the main final, and the remaining teams will play in the Plate. The main final and Plate will consist of three matches.
The divisional matches will consist of 3 teams from the main final and 3 from the Plate, unless we get more than 12 teams entries. Ideally, matches should be played on Tuesday evenings; however if that does not suit, teams can arrange alternative dates by mutual agreement. All Sylvia Rose participants must be members of Farnham Bridge club.
Matches can be 20 or 24 boards, with auto-switch at half time. The maximum time for 12 boards is 80 minutes, for 10 boards is 70 minutes. Penalties may be applied if one team is very slow, exceeding the 70 or 80 minute timescale.
Farnham Bridge club will charge £1 per person per match, as is the case with normal Realbridge events.

| FARNHAM BRIDGE CLUB AGM 2024 |
The Annual General Meeting of Farnham Bridge Club was held on Wednesday 24 July 2024 at Farnham Methodist Hall and the club was very grateful to those who attended ensuring that the meeting was quorate.
The retiring Chairperson, Hilary Havelock, was commended for her excellent work and leadership especially during the very challenging period of Covid. The club welcomed Simon Foale as the new Chairman, John Clayton to the Committee and David Barnes as the Chair of the Conduct Committee should it be needed.
This was also an opportunity for the Vice-Chairman, James Bond, to present the cups and plates of various competitions held during the year. We were delighted that many were there in person with Charlie Palmer and Peter Langford receiving the Phil Garner Trophy and Jonathan Prizeman and Piers Cooke-Yarborough accepting the Sylvia Rose Plate on behalf of their team.
Following the AGM the club held only its second face-to-face session this year.

| GUILDFORD CAFE BRIDGE - THURSDAY, OCT 3rd |
Guildford Cafe Bridge is on Thursday 3rd October, in aid of the Halow Project, Guildford. Prices will range from £35 to £45 per person, depending on where you want to have lunch. We also stress the importance of pre-registration. Pre-registration will secure priority booking which will enable you to choose your favourite lunch venue, pricing option and to lunch with friends if you so desire.
The 80 players who have taken advantage of this do not need to pre-register again.

| SCBA WANBOROUGH CUP SUCCESS |
The SCBA Wanborough Cup is a teams event for affiliated clubs teams winners. Congratulations to Simon Foale, Tim Rees, Gabriel Hearst and James Bond for coming an excellent second in this competition, just behind the perennial winners of this tournament, Mayfield.

This season's Sylvia Rose Team Competition is now over. Congratulations to Mike Kinsey, Mike Fithyan, Dave Hinkin, Owen Leigh the winners of the Sylvia Rose Cup and to Douglas Wright, Jonathan Prizeman, Manda Kimbery, Tilly Peck, Lynn Paynter, Michael Rushworth, the winners of the Sylvia Rose Plate.

ERICA CURRIE & RICHARD CURRIE SWISS PAIRS 11th February 2024
Congratulations to James Bond and David Owen, who won the overall event for the second year running and to Owen Leigh and Colin Jones who came second. Both receive trophies, very kindly donated by Douglas Currie (who also gave a bottle of whisky as a raffle prize!). We have received a Letter of Thanks from Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care for the £1,112.50 that we raised at this event.
A BIG THANK YOU TO THE MANY PEOPLE WHO HELPED WITH THIS CHARITY EVENT.
We hope that you all really enjoyed the event and the excellent plated tea.

| RealBridge IMPORTANT INFORMATION |
1. If you LOSE YOUR LINK or you have to switch device during the session, You MUST login with the SAME "FULL NAME", this includes capital letters i.e "jane" or even "jane Doe" instead of "Jane Doe" will not let you back in.
2. If you LOSE YOUR LINK permanently in the first half of the match, your scores are all removed from the session and you will not appear in the final ranking lists.
3. If you LOSE YOUR LINK permanently in the second half of the match, you retain your scores on the played boards but you will score just 40% on all the boards you miss, your opponents will score 60%.

| FBC MEMBERS WELCOMED at BOURNE BRIDGE CLUB FARNHAM |
Farnham Bridge club members are invited to play bridge with The Bourne Bridge Club Farnham F2F on Thursday evenings.
Details for Bourne Bridge Club Farnham: F2F evenings are held in the hall of the Methodist Church, central Farnham. Start time is 7pm, with a view to finish by 10pm.
The venue can happily accommodate at least 15 tables, is light and airy, has excellent kitchen facilities for tea/coffee making, is just 50 yards or so walk from Sainsbury's central car park (part of the Spire church in South Street, Farnham, on the same side of the road as Sainsbury), and has good disabled access and toilet facilities.
