PLEASE NOTE THAT E-CATS BRIDGE HAS CHANGED ITS BANK ACCOUNT WITHIN THE LAST 18 MONTHS SO PLEASE TAKE CARE. Note that the payment is to M Newton and A Gudge and not E-Cats Bridge for this event.
The sort code is 82-66-02 and the account number is 60036019.
Please put BEWDLEY as the reference so that E-Cats can allocate the transaction to the right club.
I would encourage every member to participate in these sessions which represent one of the highlights of the club year. These are not elite competitions - far rather they are aimed at maximising participation by club bridge players and raising funds for good causes. You are welcome to play in as many of the SIMS sessions as you would like, regardless of the club subscription which you hold and regardless of the sessions in which you usually play.
I wish everyone playing in the SIMS the very best of luck and look forward to seeing some excellent scores by Bewdley players.

Late Arrivals |
Online bridge continues to be a great success with excellent table numbers across our three weekly duplicate sessions.
Your directors are, however, finding difficulties in finalising the movement for sessions which causes delays and creates increased risk of mishaps. This is because more people are choosing to arrive ever closer to the formal start time for the event. Our directors have all volunteered to undertake this vital role on behalf of the club and we have a shared obligation to help them. As a result of issues in three sessions over the last 8 days I am contacting you to set out some protocols for our duplicate sessions which will help everyone to enjoy the game more.
As you know, the Monday afternoon session starts at 2.00pm and the Wednesday and Thursday evening sessions start at 7:00pm.
Your directors will open the sessions on RealBridge no later than 1:35 or 6:35 as appropriate.
Please join the session from 1:35 or 6:35. Having joined the session feel free to make a refreshment or any other small task but please be ready to start to play bridge at 1:50 or 6:50.
Please under no circumstances attempt to join a session later than 1:52 or 6:52. Such action causes significant difficulties for club directors. Your directors are authorised by the Club Committee to refuse entry to the session for anyone arriving later.

A Message from Richard |
|
Thanks to everyone who sponsored me. I’ve raised over £300 for Maggies cancer charity.
I’ve cycled for the last three days to complete 262km this month.
My ongoing (unsponsored) cycle challenge is to visit all 42 C of E Cathedrals in England by bike.
13 completed last year and although I have yet to make a serious start this year I have plans to add another 7/8 to get half way there.
Should keep me busy into the Autumn!

Support for Richard |
Richard Greenwood is raising money for a cancer support charity which has been of enormous support to him and his late wife Rachel.
He sent this message in the hope that we might be able to support him:
"I have always enjoyed cycling and spent four summer holidays touring with Rachel in France. Rachel and I both benefitted enormously from the support we received from Maggies during her illness.
Presently my continued cycling keeps me active and I have also made friends with other cyclists from cycling uk Cambridge."

Bewdley Bridge Club Annual General Meeting |
The above meeting will take place on Wednesday 5 July 2023 at Wharton Park Golf Club with a start time of 6-15pm.
The agenda, 2022 AGM minutes, Chairman's presentation, and financial statement were attached to an email that was sent to all club members on 25 May 2023.
It is our ambition to commence the Face To Face Bridge session at Wharton Park by 6:45pm to give adequate time to run a duplicate session of either 21 or 24 boards.
For the avoidance of all doubt, the club will also be offering an online session on RealBridge in the usual way. I hope to be able to give feedback from the AGM to our players on RealBridge prior to that session commencing.
Players competing at Wharton Park will be using identical boards to those playing on RealBridge. This creates a hybrid event, similar to that played recently on 7 June. The wonderful technology that we have at our disposal will enable scores to be combined and produce a single result.
The AGM is a major landmark in the club year. It gives me, on behalf of the club committee, the opportunity to thank club members for their loyal support to the club over the last year and to thank so many members who have assisted the club with its development.
On behalf of the committee I hope that you continue to enjoy our full range of club activities over the coming year.
Kindest Regards,
David Halford

Happening Soon! |
The 'Chairmans' cup takes place at Ombersley on the 9th July at 2pm. This competition is specifically aimed at players with less than 5 years experience playing bridge.
The Worcester 'mixed' teams event also takes place on 9th July at 2pm on Realbridge. We would really like more teams to enter and represent Bewdley Bridge Club.
The 'Fun' bridge session on a Friday morning at 9.15am is proving very popular! We usually get about 6 tables, but there is always room for more. This is an ideal opportunity as a stepping stone from learning bridge and just playing socially into a formal (albeit extremely relaxed and fun) duplicate session. So don't be shy come and join in the fun for an hour.

Exciting Invitation from RealBridge! |
You are invited to take part in in a huge contest, spanning vast expanses of land and sea!
It all happens on Tuesday 4th July, at 9 am. Please see the poster below for more details.
You are welcome to enter as many or as few pairs as you like.
This event is free to you - but you can ask your players to pay normal table money, if that is something you would like to do.
There will be three pools of players. The top 20 tables will comprise the expert pool. Club players will be in the middle pool. Newcomers to the game and learners (having played more than 6 months) will be in their own pool. In the newcomers pool we will play 2 fewer boards, so that we all end at the same time.
If you are interested in playing , please let Eileen know as soon as possible.

Swiss Teams Event Tonight, Thursday 27th April |
I am hoping that we will be able to play (for the first time on a Thursday) a teams session this coming Thursday, 27 April 2023 with the usual 7pm start time. We will play teams provided that there is not a half table.
It would be great if a pair would volunteer to act as hosts, thereby ensuring that we can play a teams event.
We will either play a Swiss movement or a Round Robin movement depending upon table numbers.
There is no requirement to pre-form teams for this event. Please join your partner at the lowest available table and you will form a team at that table. Please try to avoid creating "super teams" as I want everyone to have a good chance of winning the event.
The event is open to all members, regardless of the subscription paid and regardless of the sessions of the week in which an individual member normally plays.
Teams is a superb form of bridge and I look forward to you playing in the event. For the avoidance of all doubt, players of every experience level are welcome to play.

Ecats Simultaneous pairs |
All three of our duplicate sessions this week - Monday afternoon, Wednesday evening and Thursday evening - will comprise Simultaneous Pairs (SIMS) events. The sessions will be held on RealBridge and just follow the usual links to play. SIMS are sessions where identical boards are played in all the various bridge clubs that have entered the event - usually at least 20 clubs nationally and internationally. They therefore represent a great opportunity to play competitive bridge in the usual relaxed setting for which Bewdley is renowned. The SIMS are managed by E-Cats Bridge, with whom our club has an established long term association.
The SIMS sessions are charitable and look to raise funds for very worthwhile causes. This is a special additional round of SIMS organised by E-Cats Bridge in order to raise funds for the victims of the catastrophic earthquakes in Turkey and Syria earlier this year.
Participation in the sessions is included in your club subscription and there is no additional payment required to Bewdley Bridge Club.
You are requested to make a charitable donation and the details appear below. E-Cats Bridge suggest a donation of £3.00 per player per session, although clearly you could make a larger donation if you wished.
Payments should be made using online or mobile banking. Please make payments to Ecatsbridge Charity (you might need to type it as Charity Ecatsbridge). If you are given a choice between it being a personal or business account, you need to select business account.
The sort code is 20-83-50 and the account number is 60385239.
Please put BEWDLEY as the reference so that ECats can allocate the donation to the right club.
I would encourage every member to participate in these sessions which represent one of the highlights of the club year. These are not elite competitions - far rather they are aimed at maximising participation by club bridge players and rasing funds for good causes. You are welcome to pllay in as many of the SIMS sessions as you would like, regardless of the club subscription that you hold and the sessions in which you usually play.

The subscription rates for online bridge for the next six months are as follows:-
Duplicate Single Weekly Play £30

Your committee considers that this represents excellent value for money and I really hope that you will renew your subscription.
Please will you pay your subscription to Bewdley Bridge Club. The account is a business account and its number is 10301671 with sort code 20-82-70. Please when making a payment put your name as the transaction reference.

Bewdley Bridge Club Subscription - April to September 2023 |
I am contacting you to provide an update on activities provided by Bewdley Bridge Club and to invite you to renew your club subscription for the six month period from April to September 2023.
The club wil continue to provide a diverse programme of online bridge using the excellent RealBridge platform. All three of our weekly duplicate sessions - Monday afternoon, Wednesday evening and Thursday evening - remain popular and provide the opportunity to play friendly but competitive bridge. We have developed our programme so that it includes Simultaneous Pairs in partnership with ECats Bridge, Swiss Pairs and Swiss Teams. We have also transformed the club handicap competition so that it is staged quarterly throughout the club year. We continue to look for innovative opportunities to develop the club calendar to maximise enjoyment for members - a new innovation being played recently was a joint session with our friends at Pershore Duplicate Bridge Club.
We will have periodic sessions of Face To Face Bridge in the lovely settings of Wharton Park Golf Club, the latest of which will be on Wednesday 29 March 2023. Other Face To Face events are scheduled for 5 July (Club Annual General Meeting), 27 September and 13 December (Christmas Party). RealBridge sessions will be provided on those Wednesday evenings for those unable to attend Face To Face.
In addition to these sessions, the club provides morning social and teams sessions which remain very popular and which have helped to develop new players to join our ranks. Many thanks to everyone who has helped to develop these sessions.
Club membership is at a record high with every prospect of further membership growth over the coming year.
Thanks to Eileen, we have the most progressive teaching programme in the county. New initiatives will continue to be developed with the aim of widening bridge participation. It remains our ambition to work with local education providers to attract younger people to the game.
Many members enjoyed our inaugural club bridge holiday to Salisbury last October. I am delighted to report that interest in the planned holiday to Dartmouth this coming October is even greater and that we expect to have nine tables of bridge playing each evening over the three days of the holiday. Major thanks are due to Pauline Terry for all her hard work liaising with hotels and other partners.
This all points to a thriving club. Our table numbers for both the Wednesday and Thursday duplicate sessions are at record levels. I wish to extend my thanks to all club members for their loyalty and support. In particular, I wish to thank everyone who continues to assist with club management, not the least those members who have directed online bridge - a thankless task but always delivered professionally.
I am immensely grateful for the support of a superb committee and would wish to thank Eileen, Belinda, Sue, Alan, Jonathan and Candy for all their hard work and encouragement.
Club finances are in excellent health and have been expertly stewarded by our new Treasurer, Belinda Morgan. In the context of the strong financial position, I am delighted to report that subscription rates can be reduced for the next six month period which covers April to September 2023. Club reserves are strong and remain available to support the development of new initiatives as they become identified.
As with previous six month periods I am inviting you to make a single subscription payment which will cover all bridge to which you have subscribed. Again you can choose whether to purchase a single or multiple weekly subscription for club duplicate sessions. Also you can purchase single or multiple subscriptions for morning sessions. Multiple subscriptions are heavily discounted for the simple reason that we wish to encourage players to play as frequently as their circumstances allow.
The subscription rates for online bridge for the next six months are as follows:-
Duplicate Single Weekly Play £30
Duplicate Multiple Weekly Play £50
Morning Single Weekly Play £10
Morning Multiple Weekly Play £20

In summary, I would wish to repeat my thanks to all club members for their support and I really hope that you will renew your subscription and continue to participate in the progression of our club.
Kindest Regards,
David Halford

Bridge Club Holiday to Dartmouth, 9-11 October 2023 |
I am very pleased to report that the club has made a booking with the Dartmouth Hotel so that we can hold our annual bridge holiday there this year, for three nights starting on 9 October. Members expressed a clear preference for this venue when I contacted them earlier this week.
I can now give more details. The cost will be £285 per person, with a single room supplement of £95.
Pauline Terry and I now need to finalise - preferably by no later than Friday 17 March - definitive numbers of members attending. Non playing spouses are most welcome to join us for the holiday.
Several members have already confirmed to me that they wish to attend. I apologise, but we now need to create a definitive list so I should be grateful if all members who wish to attend could let me know - either by email or via the club WhatsApp Group - that you wish to attend. Please let me know if you require a single room or if you are content to share.
I have no details yet about requirements to pay a deposit so please do not make any payment to Bewdley Bridge Club or the Hotel at this stage.
The annual bridge holiday is becoming a really distinctive feature within our bridge club calendar and I am delighted that the proposals for a holiday in Dartmouth have been so positively received. Further details will be provided in due course.
Kindest Regards,
David Halford
