Extra details - Club Shield 2020/21 |
The club shield competition is now up and running and current standings are available on the tab to the left. We have a shortened calendar this year so the effective dates will be from 2nd September to 31st March inclusive. Only the Wednesday events will qualify (we may be able to publish a separate league table for Thursdays) and the same partnership will need to have played at least 12 times in order to qualify. As in previous years only the best 20 scores will count. This enables pairs to discard the occasional poor result (there are about 30 Wednesdays in total, depending on when we play over the holiday period.) Now the competition is set up the table is automatically updated when the results are uploaded to the website (with the discards not being effective until later in the season). This means that whatever the venue, face to face, or online platform the competition will remain open.
STOP PRESS
The version posted previously had numerous errors because members use different forms of their name. I've now fixed this by giving these members an alias (for Bridgewebs purposes only.) If you're unhappy with the way your name appears, let me know. This will not affect your EBU or BCL registration and no further action is necessary.
The list should update each week. Please notify me of any other errors.

This competition required a pair to have played a minimum of 20 times on a Weds Evening throughout the year.
For pairs who played more than 20 times their best 20 scores were taken.
Thanks to everyone for playing throughout this difficult year and continuing to support the club.

Worcestershire County Online Pairs League Season Five |
Many congratulations to Bill Rosie and Stuart Smith, who finished second in Division 2 of the recently finished season of the Worcestershire County Online Pairs League. This is an excellent result, Bill and Stuart averaged more than 14 / 6 victories across the nine league matches.
Many other Bewdley pairs would enjoy this competition, which involves playing a maximum of three matches per fortnight. Matches are 12 boards in length and staged on Bridge Club Live. If anyone is interested, please do not hesitate to contact me and I can arrange your entry for Season 6.

Club Catchment Area |
Our online catchment area of regular players now extends from the Herefordshire/Shropshire border in the West, (including Bromyard, Brimfield, Tenbury,) to the Warwickshire border in the East, (Astwood Bank, Redditch). North from Staffordshire (Kinver, Stourbridge, Hagley, Edgbaston), South almost to Worcester, (Grimley, Hallow). That’s an area of 350 sq. miles.
This is a huge triumph for the extension of Eileen’s teaching and David’s work liaising with neighbouring clubs. We should also thank the following members for their outreach work in recruiting their bridge playing friends: Mick Blakeman, Jane Somervell, Bill Rosie and Stuart Smith. I think as word spreads we are likely to gain even more members. Please tell your friends how friendly we are.

Club Competitions, February / March 2021 |
Your Committee met recently by Zoom and agreed how the club should stage its annual competitions online.
It was agreed that these events would be run on RealBridge, an alternative online platform which some members may have trialled in December. The reasons for this are that RealBridge offers additional facilities which might make for a more complete bridge experience and also allows the movement to be tailored to suit actual table numbers participating.
The following events will be staged on RealBridge over the coming weeks.
Club Handicap Duplicate - Wednesday 17 February 2021
Myra Hunter Cup - Wednesdays 3 and 10 March 2021
Your Committee would encourage members to give feedback from these competitions, particularly comparing the respective merits of both RealBridge and Bridge Club Live.
Richard is leading on these initiatives and further information will be supplied in due course.
