Bath Bridge Club Competitions |
We run a number of competitions through the year as well as some one-off events.
General criteria:
- All individual players and pair/team members must have been members of BBC for at least one calendar month to win any competition.
- For continuous competitions, averages are taken over the calendar year and players must have played at least 20 qualifying sessions in order to win.
In the event of any dispute, the committee's decision will be final.
Names of current holders and additional, specific eligibility criteria for each competition are listed below.

Phil Cooke Memorial Trophy |
This trophy is awarded for a one-off relaxed pairs event. Both players must be NGS 8 or below at the time of the event.

Fred Newell Cup |
This trophy is awarded to the player with the best overall average score in Open sessions during the year. It includes all events played on those days (including any Butler and teams events played by converting the imps score to a percentage).

The Arthur Jost Plate |
This trophy is awarded to the player with the best overall average score in Social/Relaxed sessions for the year. Members who have played at least 20 Open sessions during the year are not eligible for this trophy.

Swan Trophy |
This trophy is awarded to the winners of the Mixed Pairs event held once a year at an Open session.

Pepys Trophy |
This trophy is awarded to the winning pair at an Open session with Butler scoring.
Butler pairs are pairs events with teams scoring, so it is more important to bid games and concentrate on making/defeating the contract than to risk the contract for overtricks.

Malcolm Aveyard Cup |
This trophy is awarded to the winners of a Pairs event held at a Social session. Both players must be NGS 10 or below at the time of the event.

Best Open 20 |
The Best Open 20 prize is awarded to the player with the 20 best scores at Open sessions in the year. The winner of the Fred Newell Cup is not eligible for this prize.

Best Club 20 |
The Best Club 20 prize is awarded to the player with the 20 best scores at Social/Relaxed sessions for the year. The winner of the Arthur Jost Plate and members who have played at least 20 Open sessions are not eligible for this prize.

Chairman's Trophy |
This trophy is awarded to the winners of a Teams event held at an Open session during the year.

Paul Keightley Memorial Trophy |
This trophy is awarded to the player with the most improved NGS throughout the year. To qualify, members must be NGS 8 or below at the beginning of the year. For 2024 only (the first year that this trophy will be awarded) data will be taken from 1st April.

AGM Shield |
This trophy is awarded to the winners of a Handicap Pairs event held immediately after the AGM. The handicap is calculated using the average NGS of each pair.

The Committee Prize |
The Committee Prize is awarded annually to a member outside the Committee who has made a significant contribution to the running of the club.
