♠ ♥ Dear ABC Players ♦ ♣
It is with a heavy heart I have decided to not re-open the club again.
It was lovely meeting everyone who came in the autumn and I'm very grateful to all of you.
Unfortunately the interest in face-to-face bridge is still quite low at most of the clubs. Susan, who was running the supervised session, and I have spent a lot of time discussing the various options, but we feel it's too much of a risk for us to carry on as it is.
It's very emotional writing this message, but somehow I get comfort in thinking of how successful my beloved Anders was in running his club. We are very proud of him.
Take care everyone and best wishes, Eva ♥ ♥

♠ ♥ Dear ABC Players ♦ ♣
Hope you have had a good start to the new year.
Even though most of the restrictions are being lifted, we have decided to not re-open the club yet.
Several of you have told me you'd prefer to wait a little longer with face-to-face bridge. There are still quite a few testing positive, despite being double jabbed and boosted, including myself a couple of weeks ago.
Will keep you updated via the website regarding our plans and in the meantime, you are very welcome to contact me if you have any questions.
Best wishes, Eva

♥ ♥ ♥ Season Greetings ♥♥ ♥
It's been lovely to be sitting at the bridge table again, even though after a couple of months a new variant hit the country and we had to be extra careful again.
Thank you all for your support and understanding in the decision to stay closed for the time being. We were hoping to re-open in the beginning of 2022, but it's more likely to be earliest in February/March. Will keep you updated regarding dates via the website.
In the meantime, please look after each other.
Wishing you all a Peacful Christmas
and A Healthy New Year!

NO face-to-face bridge in December 2021
Due to the latest development and new guidelines re facemasks and social distancing, we have decided to NOT run our normal duplicate pairs and supervised sessions at the Polish Club the coming month.
Instead there will be an option to play bridge-on-line via RealBridge. Please send me an email, evawallen@btinternet.com, if you are interested in taking part.
The aim is to re-open the club again on 5 January 2022. Will keep you updated and in the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best wishes, Eva

Dear Bridge Friends
We have now had three F2F sessions and it's been lovely to see familiar faces again plus welcoming some new players as well.
Apart from our normal Duplicate Pairs, we're also running a separate section for Supervised Bridge in the hall. The starting time is the same; 1.15pm.
So if you know of someone who's interested in playing but would like some training at the table before entering the duplicate session, please tell them about this opportunity.
Or they can contact me on evawallen@btinternet.com.
There are always two hosts available, one for each section.
Welcome!

25 June 2021 |
Dear friends
Hope you are enjoying the summer.
As we know by now, the bridge clubs are probably not going to be opening until earliest August.
I have throughout the whole time been in regular contact with Ralph, who is the manager of the Polish Club. We are both of the opinion that it might be more realistic to re-open sometime in September.
Though the most important question is of course, how you all feel about going back to face-to-face bridge. So before I go ahead, I would very much like to hear your views. Please send me an email to let me know if and when, you are interested in coming back to ABC. Or if you are new to this game, if you would like to come and play at our friendly club.
Best wishes, Eva

March 2021 |
Dear ABC Players
I hope you and your families are all well.
It's now over a year since our beloved Anders died, and what a year it's been for all of us.
On the actually date, 5th March, I had my first Covid jab - quite poignant.
Regarding being able to open the bridge clubs again. there are now carefully phrased guidelines coming out, and we are of course following the development. It seems there might be a chance to play face-to-face from July.
We will keep you updated of the plans for ABC and, as always, please do contact me if you have any queries och just want to stay in touch.
Best wishes, Eva

20 September 2020 |
Dear ABC players
Hope you are all well and have, somehow, been able to enjoy the summer.
We are of course still very much missing our beloved Anders and are struggling to understand it's already half a year ago since he passed away. Think the concept of time is difficult for many of us this year. As I'm sure you are aware of, it seems to take an extra long time before the bridge clubs can safely open again. Will of course update you as soon as I know anything more about this.
I am afraid I haven't managed to individually contact all of you who sent lovely and very warming messages to me and my family in the spring but we really appreciated all of them.
If you have any questions regarding ABC, or would like to send me an update about your whereabouts, please write to me on evawallen@btinternet.com and I will try to reply asap.
Take care and best wishes, Eva

A POEM, written and read by one of Anders' sons on the wake, 20 March 2020 |
DAD DIED AND THE WORLD WENT MAD
When dad was here, the world was a place of order and rules.
Well organised, logical, proper and smart... Not dramatic and cruel.
Everything made sense and things were clear.
Now it's all confused and chaotic with a slowley raising fear.
Dad made things warm and safe, taking care of the ones he loved and those he hold dear.
Those who knew him well, know that he'd want us to step in and do the same, now he's not here.
We need to pull together and not be sad
even though Dad died and the world went mad.
Look around and think about the ones that are close to you.
Look around and think about the ones who deserved to be here
but couldn't beacause the world has gone mad with a really bad flu.
How lucky we are to have known Anders, and believe me you, he cherished everyone of you.
I know on the inside, you all, like me, feel beaten, black and blue.
I try to make sense of everything that's happening, and it makes me confused, angry, tired and sad.
What we have to cling onto are the amazing memories of the experiences we had.
I want to make sense of what's happening...
But all I come back to, is...
Dad died and the world went mad.

Update 21 April |
Dear ABC players,
Hope you are all well and safe.
I want to thank you very much for the lovely cards, letters and messages we received after our beloved Anders had passed away. It really meant a lot to us.
We are also grateful we were able to have a beautiful funeral for him, As I know many of you were unable to attend, I will attached a link with the Order of Service, for those interested. There will also be a poem written by one of my sons, which he read at the wake. Think it describes the strange times we are going through.
It is unlikely we will be allowed to re-open ABC the coming months, but I will of course try keeping you informed on a regular basis.
Love and best wishes, Eva

COVID-19 / Coronavirus Update - Temporary club closure |
Dear ABC players,
Due to the increasing risk of contamination, we have made the decision to temporarily suspend ABC's Wednesday sessions until further notice.
Please could I ask you to relay this message to any players who you believe may not be aware of this change.
Thank you,

Anders Wallen |
We are very saddened to announce that our beloved Anders has unfortunately passed away. He passed peacefully on the 5th March 2020 with his wife Eva and their children by his side.
The family would like to thank everybody who has supported the club over the years and for all the lovely messages they have received during these last few weeks.
Eva will continue to run the club with help from professional directors.
Even in his final days, Anders was helping Eva to prepare for the club's future.

ANDERS' BRIDGE CLUB GENERAL INFORMATION |
We are aiming to play 24 boards in the main hall at the Polish Club in Raans Road in Amersham, HP6 6LX, on Wednesday afternoons, starting 1.15pm, (NOT 1.30pm) and finishing not later than 4.30pm. Please don't arrive after 1.10 pm. Two hosts are always available, so you can always come on your own without bringing a partner. Please try to arrive not later than 13.10. Table money is £5 per player. No Master Points are given, so no hassle with National Grading System. The hall is very spacy with lots of windows to open for fresh air; and heating during the cold season. We are not having a tea break, but will, of course, serve tea, coffee and lots of biscuits from 12.45 until the end of the session.
The table money is still £5. No membership fee.
The club is aiming at bridge players who want to improve their bridge, in particular their Card Play. The hands are computer generated, then selected and slightly prepared, avoiding uninteresting boards. We are using Bridgemates, so results are available immediately after the last score is entered. Hand Records will show suggested bidding, and 8 lines per deal of detailed, useful and educational write-ups, to study back home. In addition, I will be available by email (anderswallen@btinternet.com) and phone (01628 527948) to discsuss the hands. Do get in contact with me! I love replying to your emails and phone calls regarding your bridge queries!

P A R K I N G - UPDATE |
Our neighbour, King's Church, has very kindly accepted to help us with parking on very busy days. Thanks!
This is the priority to follow
1. There are approximately 30 parking bays at the Polish Club, and, in addition, you are allowed to park outside the bays, unless you block another car.
2. In Raans Road on the left hand side, less than 25 yards before the Polish Club, you can park, from 1pm, where there are single yellow line markings. There are spaces for at least 8 cars.
3. As a last option, we can park a few cars in the quite big car park at King's Church with entrance from Raans Road. Please use this option only if the other car parks are full.
