SO MUCH FOR MARGARET'S, AND MY, TRIP TO BUENOS ARIES!
Margaret took sick with a stomach problem on our arrival. The paramedics suggested it could be her appendix, so we decided to return to Australia. So, three days in BA and hurried organisation for flights home. At the time of writing, Margaret is in hospital waiting for the op.
How did the Australian Senior's team fare? Helen Lavings did a great job taking over the captaincy, helping to guide the team to 13th place in the qualifying round robin (24 teams, 23 twelve board matches) and make the top sixteen knockout stage. Unfortunately, there they met Israel and, after taking a handy 25 imp lead over the first 15 boards, saw Israel claw back some of that over the next 30 boards to trail Australia by 6 imps coming into the last 15 boards. Israel had the better of those boards to win the match by 9 imps and progress to the quarter finals. More details are available on the ABF web-site.
