Many thanks to Mike Tedd for providing material on the early days of Porthcawl Congress. Our website already contained some information on the more recent years, but there is a huge gap between 1945 and 2008!!  If anyone has any pictures/posters/programmes etc for the intervening years which we could include, then I would be delighted if they could email me.

George Ellis R.I.P.

It is with great sadness that we report the sudden death of George Ellis on Sunday 9th June 2024, at the age of 91.  George had been Treasurer of Swansea Bridge Club for many years and was well liked both as a player and a regular Director.  He will be dearly missed.

We send our condolences to Barbara and the family.

Here are details of Accommodation bookings for the Seabank Porthcawl, you can pay in full (cancellation for a full refund possible up to 1st September 2024) or a deposit for now (£50 pp) and the balance due by 1st September 2024.  It is vital that we have good numbers staying at the Hotel if the Congress is to be a success. Remember this is great value for a top Hotel : £158 pp for 2 nights Dinner B&B (in a single/double/twin room) and a light lunch on Sunday!  Double rooms for single occupancy - £214.

Following the closure of the Porthcawl Bridge Club, the extensive library of Tutorials, Tips, and Conventions previously held on that site has now been re-homed on this site.

2024 John Isaac Pairs

After a closely fought competition this year's winners of the John Isaac Cup were Peter Milewski & Tim Dean, pictured above with WWBA Chair Steve Jarvis. Steve and his partner Mike Baker were not far behind, in second place, with last year's winners, Tony Haworth & Emer Disley, hot on their heels in third.  These three pairs were well in the lead at the lunch break and no-one was able to catch up with them in the afternoon session.  Congratulations to all three pairs!  Many thanks to our ATO, Dave Nicklin, for organising and directing this event, including a most enjoyable buffet lunch.

Unfortunately, once again we were unable to run the Ann Dolan competition, due to lack of entries sad.....maybe next year??

2024 Laidlaw Murray Cup

Congratulations to Tony Haworth & Kevin Maddox, Mike Best & Simon Richards, winners of this year's Laidlaw Murray Teams of Four, pictured above with WWBA  Chairman Steve Jarvis. In second place were Viking Yuen & Fu Cheung, John Salisbury & Joy Seculer, with last year's winners Mike Baker & Steve Jarvis, Tim Dean & Peter Milewski in third.

Ten teams took part in an enjoyable day's bridge at Tumble, efficiently directed by Sarah Amos. Thank you Sarah!

Ossie Evans Cup 2024

Congratulations to Adrian Trickey & Mrunalini Dewan, winners of the WWBA Mixed Pairs competition held at Llanarthne.  Adrian & Nalini were followed by Vida Halford & Glyn Williams, with Tim Dean & Pam Evans in 3rd place.  An enjoyable days bridge was had by all.  Many thanks to our ATO, Dave Nicklin, for organising and directing.
