On-line Bridge
On-line Bridge- CHANGES

Our Friday evening sessions continue to prove very popular. However, due to lack of support, our Monday evening on-line sessions are no longer viable, and will not continue

We are looking to arrange an alternative slot, for Tuesday evenings on RealBridge. Please let the Club secretary know (email to jimsteele_uk@yahoo.com or text to 07478 312456) whether you would be interested in principle in playing on-line on Tuesday evenings, and if not, what alernative time of the week would suit you better. The more replies we receive, the better able we will be to match your preferences.

In the meantime, we would like to draw your attention to on-line bridge available each Monday and Tuesday afternoon, at 2pm. To find out more, click HERE

Welcome

When  Covid-19 restrictions came into force,  our normal face-to-face bridge activities were curtailed. However, at Warrington Bridge Club we were determined to provide opportunities for people to continue to play, and for those newer to the game, to learn and improve. Ever since the lockdown in March 2020, we have embraced all the aspects of technology we can to help us, including running regular on-line sessions, and offering Improvers lessons on Zoom, and Supervised Gentle Duplicate Pairs.

Now that we have restarted face to face bridge, we have our club session on Monday evenings, and a teaching class on Thursday mornings. There are also sessions most Thursday afternoons- please see calendar.

However, we have continued with our on-line bridge in parallel, and run regular weekly sessions. Please see the calendar on this website for what sessions are running, and when.

We have made it very easy and inexpensive for new people to join our Club, and take part in whatever activities they like. We have a thriving on-line community playing bridge together, so come and join us!

If you would like to know more, please contact Jim Steele, Club Secretary on 07478 312456, or by email to Jim Steele or email the Club on Warrington Bridge Club

Or, if you prefer, you can just apply to join. You can find our application form here: Membership Application Form

Our "Virtual" Bridge Club

Warrington Bridge Club offers one regular session per week of on-line, or "virtual" bridge, on RealBridge.

  • Friday evenings 715pm Duplicate Pairs (last Friday in the month is normally a Swiss Pairs session)

In addition to organised online bridge, members might also want to have relaxed on-line games with friends. This is easy to do on BBO, using their Casual Bridge option.  To make it easier for members to find each others' details, there is a field in our Member List, showing the BBO username for those who have registered for it. Go to the Member Area tab, and log in.  To log in to the Member Area, you'll need your email address and password.  If you don't know your password, enter your email address and click on the password reset button. You'll receive a password reset email; note that, depending on your email settings, it might go in your junk/spam folder.  Open the password reset email,  and follow the instructions.  Choose Member List, and all the relevant information is displayed: Member's name, BBO username, email address, phone number, and mobile number (where members have agreed for this information to be displayed in the Member Area).

Note: The Member List also now includes EBU number, as some members have been asking where to find this.

NO FEAR BRIDGE
NO FEAR BRIDGE

NO FEAR BRIDGE - the website for beginners and improvers: http://www.nofearbridge.co.uk/

This site has activities and hints, starting from showing complete beginners how to play mini bridge, through learning the essentials of the full game, and offering lots of opportunity to practice. It contains lots of sound tips on how to use the Acol system. It's well worth a look. After registering, you get a fortnight's free access, so you can decide whether you like it before committing to part with any money.

We have quite a few Club members who love this facility, and absolutely swear by it!

Bridge Club Live
Bridge Club Live

BridgeClubLive is a British site affiliated to the EBU, but has members worldwide. Details on https://www.bridgeclublive.com/

There are three classes of membership:

  • Guest: this is free and unlimited in duration. All registered members automatically get this level of membership free of charge. It allows unlimited play in the Guest MPS (Bridge4Free) Room and provides an easy way to evaluate the software and review the options available. Play online up to 96 boards a day for free, everyday - 8 boards gets you on the Leader Board.

Discounts apply for membership over a certain number of years (a loyalty discount); there is also a rebate on the next year's fees if your amount of usage of the site (number of boards played) is below a threshold.

BridgeClubLive is a well run friendly site, with regular completions organised, as well as the ability to drop in as you please. A key advantage of choosing a paid membership is the ethics system: people are not allowed to be rude or to drop out in the middle of a hand, so you can concentrate on playing bridge. They have a useful grading system, so that after each session you can assess how well you did, considering both your score and the quality of the opposition. If you have a registered partnership, there are leagues to enter. BridgeClubLive opearte a pairs championship, a big knock out competition which starts in September, with the final in the new year.

Some BridgeClubLive players play mostly with arranged partners, while some drop in as and when they like and find someone with whom to play. Paid membership is good value if you to play there once a week or more. Several of our members can be found playing on this site.

funbridge.com
funbridge.com

Have you ever wondered about playing bridge with a computer? The Funbridge site  https://www.funbridge.com/ gives you the chance to experience it for free. You don’t have an option to set the standard of play but you can set (separately) the system for yourself and your opponents.

An interesting feature is that you get a comparison of your score with other members who have played the same hands.

When you register, the first 100 boards are free, and then you get 10 free deals per week.

You can subscribe, either for unlimited play, or for packs of deals. The subscription is quite expensive, at €12.99/month, though you do not have to make a commitment to keep paying, and can cancel at any time. Packs of deals cost €3.49 for 50, or €18.99 for 400.
