Welcome to Maine Bridge - Unit 189
Maine Bridge Association

Welcome to the Maine Bridge Association! The Association is Unit 189 of the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), which is the governing body for duplicate bridge in North America. Approximately 600 of our members in the State of Maine are regular players of duplicate bridge.

To promote duplicate bridge in Maine, each year the Unit:

  • Runs six ACBL Sectional tournaments in various parts of Maine and a multi-day State Championship
  • Supports the operation of about 25 bridge clubs that hold games every week at various locations throughout Maine. These bridge clubs provide playing opportunities for all levels of skill.
  • Publishes Maine Bridge’s newsletter, THE VOICE OF THE DUMMY, three times per year

To assist the growth of duplicate bridge in Maine, we are committed to teaching bridge to players of all ages, whether in schools, in our clubs, or in retirement communities. If your group would like to enjoy the game more, please contact us to find out what we have to offer.

Zero Tolerance

Say hello to everyone.

You might make someone’s day.

Respect the directors.

They are here for you.

Introduce yourself to people you don’t know.

They may be your next good friends.

Help those with less experience.

WE all were beginners at some point.

Be punctual.

If you’re late, you make others late too.

Look forward to the next deal.

Dwelling on the last hand wastes time.

Acknowledge good play by the opponents.

An appreciative nod lets them know their skill has not gone unnoticed.

Value your partner.

He’s the only one in the room on your side.

Smile often.

You will brighten the room considerably.

Keep your priorities straight.

Diamonds are great, but hearts are much more valuable.

Be understanding.

Everybody makes mistakes.

Grace is good.

Nobody likes a boastful winner.

Be kind.

You will never like everybody, but you can be cordial to all.

Save your analysis and lessons for the postmortem.

It would be a shame to have nothing to talk about after the game.

Nobody likes to lose.

Practice grace under fire.

Enjoy!

You can’t win all the time, but you can always have fun.
