Welcome to Thakeham Bridge Club
THAKEHAM BRIDGE CLUB
THAKEHAM BRIDGE CLUB

This popular bridge club was founded in 1980 by four friends who played bridge socially and then decided to form a formal club. The club now has a membership of over one hundred enthusiastic players who enjoy the challenge and reward of the game. Our dealing machine is now fully operational and provides interesting card distributions and hand records that accompany web-posted results.

We meet on: (i) Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm, usually for teams (so it would be very helpful if you could let Harold know in advance whenever you intend playing) and (ii) Friday afternoons at 1:20pm for duplicate pairs. Please arrive 10-15 minutes before play commences. Visitors are most welcome but no standby partners are provided. However, should you need a partner please contact Harold Linfield on (01798) 812276.

We ask that you avoid playing at the club if you have any symptoms indicating that you may have an infection - eg: coughs, sneezes, temperature, etc.

ARRIVAL

Please try to arrive 10 - 15 minutes before play is scheduled to start in order to help our directors and scorers.

If delayed by traffic please contact a member of the committee.

Our Members

We are sad to announce the death of Angela Burgess and Ronald James over Easter. Both of them were valued members who contributed so positively to the club and to all those around them.

Angie was always concerned with the welfare of others and was a star participator and helper in our club events and activities. There will be a thanksgiving service for Angela at St Andrews Steyning at 2pm on 21st May followed by a funeral tea. There will be a private family cremation beforehand.

Ron had many who appreciated his patient help in the wonderful game and was well known for his friendship among us all. At present no further details are available regarding Ron's funeral.

We will miss them both and our thoughts are with their families and friends.

The club is always open to welcome new members. For more information please contact a member of the committee via Harold Linfield.

Competitions

The Mid-Sussex Teams of Eight competition was held 13th April 2025 at Thakeham Village Hall. On this occasion our team comprised Jeremy, Martin, Pierre, Cecily, the Chaplins and the Galpins. Keith Norman directed the competition. The Thakeham team won the match convincingly against strong opposition, which was a great result for our club. Congratulations to all those involved and to Jeremy for organising our participation - with special thanks to Keith for directing the event so professionally.

Our club played a home match in the NICKO Plate tournament on 15th April against Reading "A" Bridge Club. Our team won, which puts Thakeham BC into the last 16 of the Plate. Congratulations to our team who comprised Harold, Cecily, David and Andrea Galpin. This being a National competition we may have to travel a large distance for the next round, eg: one of the other matches was Bath v Kendal. Thanks to Jeremy who organised the event but who could not compete because he was unfortunately suffering from a bad cold.

The annual Spring Teams competition was held Friday 25th April. Congratulations to the winning team comprising: Tom Garside, David Cole, Wendy Wigley and Sally Blockley.

The Autumn Teams competition will be held Friday 24th October 2025. In November this year we will be running our usual pairs competition.
