The Lord Lieutenant of Rutland cuts the ribbon!
The Lord Lieutenant of Rutland cuts the ribbon!

We are very grateful to HM Lord Lieutenant, Dr Sarah Furness for opening our new venue. We had over 50 guests, and 36 remained to play and enjoy the first bridge session in the new club. See "News Page" for the new Club in action.

What do you think about Whist?

Whist might be a great way to introduce people with an interest in cards into the club - either to continue with Whist, or to progress through the Beginner Course through to Chicago or Duplicate. If you have experience of Club Whist, or know of anyone who does, can you let Tony know please tonylochery@yahoo.co.uk

Play the style of Bridge that suits you

ROBC is an all inclusive Club. Our aims are to teach Bridge to beginners and thereafter to offer routes to social or competitive play. It generally takes about 10 weeks (the length of the Beginner Course) to become confident at social Bridge, and 6-12 months, depending on personal commitment, to become confident at competitive. Beginner Courses start in January 2025, social Bridge (also called Chicago) is played Thursday afternoons, competitive Bridge (also called duplicate) is played Tuesday evening and Friday afternoon, with a gentler version  played on Monday afternoons. In the New Year we will start a 'supervised duplicate' session intended to enable those who want to move from social to duplicate. If all this sounds too complicated, email Tony at tonylochery@yahoo.co.uk for a chat.

Gentle Duplicate

On Mondays starting Monday 7th October at 1.30pm we will be holding social duplicate bridge sessions. How the format will work will depend entirely on what players want but it will not be EBU accredited and is aimed to appeal to those wanting to play bridge socially but as a change from chicago/rubber bridge. We anticipate  18 boards but again this will depend on players. We hope to see as many as possible.

Chicago Bridge

The new Chicago session will start from Thursday 10th October 2024 at 1315 for a 1330 start. The session will be hosted, which means you do not need to bring a partner. We are indebted to Jill Harris of the Bowls Club Bridge Group who will run the first two sessions (10th and 17th October), thereafter to be shared amongst others in the Club.
