Welcome to the Newport Bridge Club website
We run a small and friendly club playing duplicate bridge every Tuesday and Thursday evening in "The Hub" in the centre of Newport the only exceptions being at Christmas and Easter. The room can accommodate about ten tables, but around seven would be occupied on a typical club night.
We try to create a relaxed atmosphere but, at the same time, we encourage both a good standard of bridge etiquette and careful observance of the rules.
We are affiliated to the EBU and are therefore involved in the Masterpoint scheme. We do compete annually for several trophies. Click on "Competitions" (to the left) for details.
Visitors are very welcome. We don't operate a hosting system but will try to find a partner for you if you need one.
Play starts at about 7.15 and players are asked to arrive by about 7.00 so that the Tournament Director can organise the duplicate movement.
Please click on “Information” for further details, including how to find a partner.

Clubs background and history |
Newport Bridge Club was the brainchild of Arthur Wilkinson. He realised that in a town the size of Newport there would enough people who shared his interest in bridge to form a viable bridge club. The first recorded meeting of Newport Bridge Club took place on the 14th January 1980; we celebrated the 25th anniversary of this event with a party that included former and current members of the Club.
We are proud to say that we have a reputation for being welcoming and friendly. Indeed, it is written in our constitution that we will provide a congenial environment for people to enjoy the game of bridge.
Under the chairmanship of Guy Kershaw (2003-2005) we showed our commitment to the future of duplicate bridge in this part of Shropshire by providing a course of bridge lessons for beginners. This the club did again in 2012/13.These were both very successful in terms of the number of learners who completed the course but they also showed how keen our members are to give their support to new players.
