Constitution of The Mersea Bridge Club (October 2015)
1. The club shall be called "The Mersea Bridge Club".
2. The aim of the club shall be to encourage all persons interested in playing bridge to develop their skills at the game in a friendly and cordial atmosphere.
3. The club shall meet every Monday throughout the year, except Bank Holidays, and on such dates and at such venues as shall be decided by the committee.
4. The management of the Club shall be vested in the Committee which shall consist of the following:
THE CHAIRMAN
THE CAPTAIN
THE VICE-CAPTAIN
HONORARY SECRETARY
HONORARY TREASURER
SIX COMMITTEE MEMBERS
5. The Chairman shall normally preside at all Committee meetings and shall have a personal vote and a casting vote when necessary. In the absence of the Chairman, the Captain or Vice-Captain shall preside, with similar voting powers.
6. The Committee shall be elected annually at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and all members of the retiring Committee shall be eligible for reelection.
7. A quorum at Committee meeting shall be FIVE, one of whom must be the Chairman, Captain or Vice-Captain.
8. a. The Annual General Meeting of the club shall be held of the third Monday. of
October or such other date as shall be arranged by the Committee and notice of the meeting shall be given and displayed at least 14 days in advance.
b. The annual accounts to show the financial position of the club as at 30th September
will be audited by a non-committee member and presented to the members for their approval at the AGM.
9. An Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of the club may be called by the Honorary Secretary upon receipt of a request, in writing, signed by not less than 25% of the membership of the club, or at the request of a quorum of the Committee.
10. A table fee shall be payable, the amount of which may be varied by the Committee if necessary.
11. The rules of play shall be as laid down by the latest International Bridge Rules.
12. All applications for membership shall be considered individually by the Committee whose decision shall be final.
13. Membership shall be limited to numbers agreed by the Committee.
14. Bank Account
a. The club's bank/building society shall be determined at an AGM but may be changed by agreement of a majority of members at an EGM called in accordance with rule 9.
b. All cheques drawn on the club's account(s) shall require any one of two authorised signatures. In the event of one authorised signatory being unavailable for an extended period, the officers of the club may authorise a further signatory for the period involved.
c. The persons authorised to sign cheques shall normally be the Honorary Treasurer and another selected by the Committee.
