Mangawhai Bridge Team Top of Northland

Only a few years ago the Mangawhai Bridge Club was just an interest group of a dozen or so players. With grant support from the Wood Street Opportunity Shop the club is now a well-resourced, affiliated member of NZ Bridge. The membership is closing in on 60 members, who are spread as far away as UK and Canada. Mangawhai was chosen by the Canadians for their summer hide away as it has both a golf course and a bridge club.

On Saturday 5 August the club entered the Northland team competition for the first time with a junior and an intermediate team. The junior team pictured above won handsomely over the more well established clubs like Whangarei and Kerikeri. While the club has made huge progress with the quality of bridge that is played – keeping the culture friendly and welcoming is still its main priority.
