How to join an on-line pairs game in the Avenue/Lewes Online Virtual Bridge Club

Sessions will be held on Tuesday mornings at 10.00 am, Wednesday Evenings at 7.30pm and Thursday afternoons at 1.30 pm.  The events will be 18 boards.

The game will be available for you to register from 2 hours before the start time.

Please make sure that you have at least BB$3 in your BBO account before attempting to register.  You can purchase BB$ from the BBO website using a credit card or Paypal.  You will see either a tab for ‘the shop’ or BB$.

To register log on to BBO and under 'Play or Watch Bridge' click 'Competitive' and then click 'All Tournaments'. Finally you scroll down to our event where your club director, vEBU203471, is the host and it is called 'Pairs Avenue & Lewes (Members only) session time with a number after. Click on the event (not the host's name) and you will be asked to nominate your partner and if you want to pay for him/her. If he/she is logged into BBO and accepts the invitation you will both be registered in the tournament and you need do nothing else and at 1:30pm you will be taken to the event and your first opponents.

If you do not have a partner you will see at the top an item saying 'Partnership Desk' if you click on that you will see a list of any others looking for a partner and you can invite one of them or you can add your name to the list and wait to be invited. Just a word of warning anyone can join the partnership desk but if they are not on the list of Avenue and Lewes members and friends they will not be allowed to join the event.

Please be registered in the event on BBO at least 10 minutes before the start. This means logging on at least 15 minutes before the start. You can register in the event up to 2 hours before the event and come back 10 minutes before the start. Please make sure that you are logged into BBO and haven’t been timed out for inactivity. Now that it has been created, the event starts automatically it doesn't wait for me or you so please be in good time as you cannot join after it has started.

Just a quick word about alerting and announcing on BBO. You alert and announce you own bids not your partner's. You do this by typing an explanation on the line in the bidding box BEFORE you make your call. You should do this for any call which would be announceable or alertable in face-to-face bridge. Your opponents will see this explanation but your partner will not. If you want an explanation of any opponent's call just click on that call in the bidding display and give him/her a few moments to reply. Any questions about defenders carding methods should be done through private chat. During the bidding and play nothing should appear in table chat except 'good luck' and 'thank you'.
