Welcome to Joan's Bridge Club
Welcome
Welcome

Welcome to Joan's Bridge Club, serving Rancho Palos Verdes since, well, a very long time ago.  Joan Johnson is our host and director.  From our home at Fred Hesse Park Community Center we offer ACBL-sanctioned duplicate games on Mondays ($10) and Tuesdays ($15).  The Monday game runs from 11:00 AM sharp to about 2:30 PM. The Tuesday game ($10), starting at 11:30, combines a half-hour lesson with play until 2:00 PM.  No need to come with a parfner on the Tuesday session, we'll match you up.  Bring your nametag if you have one at either of these events.

In addition to duplicate, Hesse Park also hosts party bridge on Thursdays, 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM ($1).  No need to come with a partner on party bridge Thursdays, we rotate partners in a less formal bridge play arrangement.  Coffee and potluck snacks provided.  We have a short break for brownbagged lunch.  The most affordable bridge in Los Angeles County at only one dollar.  (First timers free).  Yes, sometimes you DO get more than you pay for.

Last but not least, Hesse Park evening classes serve to introduce beginners into the fun challenges of contract bridge.   Classes are in conjunction with the Rancho Palos Verdes Parks & Recreation Department.  No need to be a city resident to join in.

For those just getting into bridge ...

Opportunities abound for those wanting to learn bridge.  Rancho Palos Verdes Parks & Rec, Joan Johnson Bridge Club, Agile Bridge Club, and South Bay Bridge Center offer different classes and different levels of play. See the latest in the Links section.

For total beginners, or folks wanting to reboot from the very beginning, contact Andy Smith (andy.smith@cox.net) for the latest information.  Class frequency depends on demand.

Rancho Palos Verdes Parks & Recreation has two class sessions starting in January 2026.  Beginners II is the second half the Beginners lessons, Tuesdays 4:00 - 5:50 PM.  If you know the basic rules of bidding and play, this class will teach you new stong bids and weak bids that make bidding even more interesting.  For Intermediate players, Thursday evenings 6:30 - 8:20 offers a chance to hone your skills and refresh your memory on bid and play.  All of these Rancho Palos Verdes classes are "Party Bridge" format.  No need to sign up with a partner.  We rotate partners so you can see different style of play (and players?).

Registration for both Parks and Recreation classes will open some time in December.  To get on a mailing list for either, contact andy.smith@cox.net.

For more advanced players, Joan's Bridge Club offers a combo lesson + duplicate play.  Come to Hesse Park any Tuesday at 11:30 (or a bit early) and listen to a half hour lesson topic, followed by ACBL-sanctioned duplicate play until 2:00.  For more information contact Joan Johnson (310) 373-4406.
