Bulletin

As the Covid threat level is moderate, mask wearing will be optional at bridge, although players can request that others at the table wear masks. Group refreshments are no longer being offered during the game, although players can bring their own drinks and snacks.

Generally we have resumed playing twice a week at the Heritage Hills Activities Center. The club asks that players arrive at least ten minutes before the scheduled game time, so the director can set up the movement in a timely fashion.

Special Games

The next opportunity to win gold points at HHDBC comes in January, when the club takes part in the Royal STaC tournament running in the greater NYC area. Win silver points with good results in the club, and then add red or gold with a solid regional performance!

RIP

Long time Heritage resident and former bridge player Phil Blanco -- husband of HHDBC regular Eleanor -- died November 27 at the age of 91. Click here to read his obituary.

Long time Heritage resident and bridge player Mel Frankel died on Friday Oct. 11. He was 97. See Mel's obituary here.

--

Sadly, Chris Creamer, a member of our bridge club for many years, passed away May 10. See his obituary here.

--

We are sad to share that Nancy Ponton died Oct. 5, 2023. Her obituary can be seen here.

Long time club player Dave Almer died in November.

We also remember other club members departed in 2022:

George Cheung and Eugene Genovese.

The club has just learned about the death of Ingrid Zablauskas Nargi on Christmas Day back in 2022. She was 86. Ingrid had worked as a director at Down Two Doubled, and also founded the 7 Hearts Bridge Club for retirees.

Gone but not forgotten.

Hygiene Warning

Please do not come to bridge if you do not feel well. Keep any used tissues off the table and off the equipment.

The Common Game

HHDBC has joined The Common Game!

What is The Common Game?

It's a grouping of ACBL-affiliated clubs that broadens the competition by playing the same hands across many clubs. Lots more statistics and analysis, too if you explore their website. If your friends elsewhere across the country are playing at the same day and time as you are, you can compare results!

So now, if you play at Heritage, afterward you can see your results on our own website, on the ACBL website that most of you are familiar with, or on The Common Game website.

Yes, The Common Game awards their own points to determine the best players across their member clubs, but you get no extra ACBL points for any of this.

If The Common Game has your email address on file they may now start sending you results emails. If you would like to receive those and you're not getting them, or if you ARE receiving them and you don't want them, send your own email to help@thecommongame.com with your ACBL number in the subject line, and tell them what you want them to do!

Any more questions, email or ask Club Manager Karen Sloan.

2023 Masterpoints

The 2023 Masterpoint awards lists are in, and lots of Heritage Hills Players won titles in Unit 188.

Congratulations to Keith Johnson, Subhash Sindhwani, Mary Robohn, Joanne Jantos, Mark Kotkin, Lester Gottlieb, Susan Duval and Cliff Nebel for topping their categories in the Helen Shanbrom Ace of Clubs Standings. Click here for a list with HHDBC players highlighted.

Visit the Unit 188 website to see the full unedited lists of area winners, including those capturing Mini-McKenney titles (which included points from bigger tournaments), and the Virtual Ace of Clubs results (featuring those who play a lot online). The Unit 188 website also has links to the ongoing Masterpoint Races in 2024.

Keeping Score

WARNING: According to ACBL laws, during a game at least one partner must keep a legible convention card with the proper score (not plus, minus or average, but the correct number.)

The club must enforce this rule because any time there is a computer issue the director will have to require scores to be recorded on paper on a pickup slip.

Those who don't comply will receive a zero score on any board that is not scored properly.

Important Information

Heritage Hills members can view the Club's annual report via the News Page. It is password protected. So are things like the pictures of the Holiday Party.

If you would like to view everything, if you haven't already done so head to the Members area and ask that a link be sent to your email address to set up your password.
