Bridgeclublive can be found at https://www.bridgeclublive.com . This will be referred to as BCL from now on.
The link BCL/How to on the left has a downloadable PDF explaining the process. It may be slightly out of date.
Once you have submitted your trial request, you will be sent a MemberID and password. Go to https://www.bridgeclublive.com and Login. You will be prompted to give a little bit of information about yourself, I think the only obligatory item is you MUST tick one system you play (Acol or benjii Acol seem a good bet!), you can tick more than one. If you put any information in "Favourite systems", it can be edited later.
From now on, unless you Log Off or clear cookies, logon is automatic whenever you visit https://www.bridgeclublive.com . There is lots of information on the Home Page and even more by clicking the various tabs at the top. I suggest you read the various items on the Home Page and click the various tabs at the top to get a feel for what is on offer!
OK, you are now ready to proceed. Click the green box saying "Play Bridge". A new tab (very green) will pop up, click "Enter the bridge club", click that. You will now see a display of the current rooms in the club, most are open and can be slected. Some may be in black and won't be opening until later.
Please note, whenever you are in the playing area, always, exit by clicking Exit at the top right of middle. Do NOT, just close the tab or browser, if you do you will still appear to others as if you are still logged into to club. This will be frustrating if they try to chat to you and even more frsustrating if you are stll sat at a table.
There are a few more useful items of information -
- From the home page I recommend you select Members/Clubs, scroll down (on the right) to Five Aces and select. In the left pane, click in "Press HERE to register with Five Aces Duplicate Bridge Club UK" . The right hand pane will now list all other members who have also registered with Five Aces. This has more uses as you will see later! However, for now, if you click any of the names you will see what details they have logged with BCL.
- When logged in to the playing area there is a chat functiion bottom right.Just type chat in the box and it will be sent to whoever is listed underneath. The default is "Lurkers" .i.e anyone not currently sat at a table. It is more likely that you wish to chat to someone more specific. Use of chat is complicated, I do not intend giving a tutorial here, just experiment. If all else fails, there is copious help on the Home Page , by clicking "Help" top right and then typing "chat" and enter.
- When logged into the play page, I suggest you click on a room (I suggest Social Bridge or Daily MPs), pick any random table with 4 players and click the eye symbol at the top of that table. You will be prompted to spectate or kibitz that table and from a selected compass direction (spectate shows all four hands, kibitz only 2).. Now just watch a while, to see how bidding and play is displayed. You will also see any chat at that table. When you have had enough, click "Leave table" at top or "Exit" at top. Remember, DO NOT close the tab or browser, click "Exit" top right.
- When logged into the play page, click "Local Club" at the top. Provided you have registered with Five Aces (see a bullet above) you will see a list of all Five Aces members who have also registered and and an indication as to whether or not they are currently in the club. You can also click "Members at" the top to see all BCL members currently logged in, this will be a long list, there are various flters you can click on to make the list more relevant (e.g. members in room or unseated). Clicking any Alias (i.e. a name) will show details on that alias.
- When logged into the play page, there is a "Refresh" button at the top. Click it frequently! Members, Tables and rooms will normally be out of date unless you click this option.
- When you feel ready to actually play, my suggestion is try the Social room, very easy to get a game with as many boards as you feel comfortable with. More competitive is Daily MPs and DIDO (Drop In Drop OUT). In DIDO, you commit to playing 4 boards, BCL is likely to issue a warning if you do not play the 4 boards you have commited to. In DIDO , you and your partner get auto moved to a new table and pair after 4 boards.
- There is also an Individual tournament once per day at varying times in the afternoon or evening, no partner needed. You commit to 18 boards, 3 boards with each player at the original table, then auto moved to a new table with 3 new opponent/partners. The Individual is a great way with meeting up with new BCL members.
