R.I.P. Sula Turpin

We've just heard the very sad news that Sula Turpin died on Sunday after a sudden collapse earlier in the week. She was such a lovely person and we are shocked to lose her so unexpectedly. She has been an active member of Newbury Bridge Club for a very long time. She was a good player and very popular with everyone. Our commiserations go out to her friends and family.
The funeral will be on Friday 3rd January 2025 at 5pm at the Basingstoke Crematorium followed by a wake afterwards at the Fox Inn (nearby). Everybody is welcome at the funeral.  If you want to attend the wake please let me know at brianmedhurst@hotmail.co.uk so I can inform the family for catering purposes.

Newbury Bridge Club Annual Dinner Friday 10th January 2025

Our New Year Dinner is on Friday 10th January at 6pm at The Bowlers Arms, Enborne Street, Wash Common RG14 6TW. This will be a 2 course meal followed by a prize presentation, rubber bridge and a raffle. The cost is £22 for 2 courses and if you would like to attend please advise David Barratt djbbridge@gmail.com asap and by 1st January at the latest . You will be billed in the usual way via your monthly invoice. We need your menu choices when you confirm you would like to attend.

The Choice is:
Main Course:  Roast loin of pork with roasted new potatoes, sage and onion stuffing, fresh market vegetables and a meat gravy     OR         Creamy tarragon chicken with rice and green beans.
Vegetarian Option:  Sweet potato and coconut vegetable curry with rice served in a crisp basket.
Dessert Course:  Lemon tart with raspberry coulis   OR   Cream filled profiteroles with chocolate sauce  OR  Chocolate and hazelnut tart with vanilla ice cream.

If you have any special dietary requirements please let David know and we will speak to the venue about accommodating these. We are also holding  a raffle in aid of our new charity of the year: 'A Bridge for Young People' which supports people leaving care and trying to make their way in the world. If you can donate a prize to support this we would be very grateful. Please let David, John Harland or me have any donations in advance, or advise us if you are bringing along a prize on the night so we have a feel for prize numbers.
For raffle tickets we will be using the same format as we did for our recent Charity evening and you can purchase numbers on the night at £2 each or in advance from David if you cannot attend. These will also be charged to your monthly invoice. Thank you for your ongoing support and we look forward to see as many of you as possible on January 10th.
