  Elaine Proctor

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of long time member Elaine Proctor.  Elaine was greatly involved in county events, and in the past was responsible for handwriting all of the county's masterpoint certificates - a lengthy task!  She represented Lincolnshire, for example, in the National Gold, and rose to the rank of Life Master, placing her 5th in the county rankings.  She founded the Lincoln Ladies Bridge Club, which played at Lincoln YMCA and raised money for charity; this later combined with Lincoln Bridge Club.  Elaine was also awarded the prestigious Dimmie Fleming Award for services to bridge. These awards are made specifically to publicly recognise those who have worked hard promoting bridge locally at County level.  I remember her as a very courteous and friendly player whenever I met her at the table.  She will be greatly missed.

Elaine's funeral will take place at 1.00 pm, Thursday 25th July at Lincoln Crematorium

  Lincoln Gold Bowl

This is the county's premier knockout competition for teams of four. The final was played on 29th April 2024 between the Rueful Rabbits and Alford. The match was extremely close throughout: Alford eventually managed to win by just 1 imp, with the result in doubt until the last few cards of the last board. Congratulations to both teams.   The Lincoln Gold Bowl will be presented to the Alford team of Jackie Pfister, Mark Wardell, Aaron Hutton and Kiat Huang.  They also qualify to represent the county in the national finals, playing for the Pachabo Cup.

  Bainton Trophy Final

Sadly, one of our pairs had to withdraw at the last minute due to being unwell, and we were unable to raise a substitute. The remaining nine pairs participated in the "all-play-all" movement, playing 32 boards. All ran smoothly and it was an enjoyable afternoon of bridge for those taking part. The honours go to Rob Fabian & Brian Chamberlain, closely followed by Roy Brixton & Brigid Hughes and Maurice Lynn & John Hill. The top three pairs are eligible to take part in the Corwen Trophy next June.

  Bainton Trophy Semi-Final

We had a good turnout of 24 pairs for the Bainton Semi-Final playing a skip Mitchell of 11 x 3-board rounds. Despite a slight early hiccough as a result of a necessary movement change the event ran quite smoothly and was enjoyed by all. The honours go to Louise Mitcham & Sally Hippisley from Boston BC, closely followed by Anthony & Jean Lyndon-Smith from Heighington BC. Well Done! The top 10 pairs go on to the Final, which will be an "all-play-all" movement of 36 boards and for which all pairs will receive green Masterpoints.

  Charles Heward Trophy

The Charles Heward Trophy (Restricted Teams of Four) was held at Dunholme VH on Sunday 3rd December. Four teams had entered, two from Scunthorpe BC, one from City of Lincoln BC and one from Louth DBC.  All pairs played 24 boards from the 32 in play in a Stagger movement. Congratulations go to the winning Scunthorpe 1 team of Louise Lewis, John Mainwaring, Paul Readhead & Pam Readhead.  The restricted teams consisted of a team captain of any Masterpoint rank, and three players of rank below Master (less than 5,000 points). It was very encouraging to see many of our lower ranking players making use of the County facilities. Everything ran smoothly despite the atrocious weather and everyone had a very relaxed and enjoyable afternoon of bridge.

  Random Seeded Pairs

The Random Seeded Pairs (Teams event) was held at Dunholme VH on Sunday 29th October.   Ghost Pairs

Our second event of the season was the Ghost Pairs played at Dunholme on Sunday 8th October. Sadly, two pairs were lost due to illness, and so it only attracted five tables.  Winners N/S were Rodney Mitchell & Glyn Jackson and E/W were Louise Mitcham & Sally Hippisley. Well done both pairs. Our next event is the Random Seeded Pairs on October 29th. The event was played in a very friendly spirit and we would encourage as many members as possible to play in all our events. There is nothing to fear.
