Plea for substitute players: Due to the fixed movement it is essential that all entrants commit to all sessions.  There are a couple of pairs who cannot yet enter because they will be missing a session and it would be a pity to lose them.  Last minute subs are also sometimes required due to illness etc. If you and/or a partner are available to act as a sub for any sessions (especially October 24) please let Graham know, and in which Divisions you would be comfortable to play.

This summer the sequence of monthly seminars on various bridge topics conintues. Each session aims to improve your bidding, or improve your play, or just be a enjoyable evening of learning! There's no need to attend all the sessions. If you haven't already participated, that's not a problem. Details available in the Summer 2024 Improving Seminars flyer.

Next session Monday July 22nd, 7:00pm.  Practice Hands    Please sign-up by evening of July 15th - needs 2 full tables go ahead.

• 12 prepared hands (and 4 spares) to practice topics from recent lessons.
• Split into sets of 3 of 4 hands.   Quick revision of topic; play hands; review.
• Each set to have topics such as:  Lebensohl after partner opens 1N;  Lebensohl after partner doubles opponent's weak 2;  some on Transfer hands and 1Nx hands; assorted mix.
• Some of these hands will include declarer play challenges.

Subsequent sessions:

• Aug 19th: Awkward 10 counts.    When to pre-empt, pass or open at the one level.
• September (date TBC, likely 9th): Play of NT hands.    Developing tricks in the right suit; hold-up plays; important suit combinations.

Forty keen bridge players were seen wandering the streets of Coventry on 11th June. It was an enjoyable day despite the cold wind and drizzle - is this really flaming June?
All enjoyed 5 rounds of bridge at 4 different restaurants in Belgrade Plaza, and were treated to a great lunch by all the venues. (The Belgrade, Telegraph Hotel Restaurant, Bella Italia and Pizza Express)
It was a very enjoyable day, superbly organised by Sue O'Gorman, with Graham in charge of the movement and the scoring.

The top scoring pair, Alan Ward and Michael Sallis, took the winners' trophy, whilst Mary Wood and Ann Ridgway claimed second place. Full results are available on the website.
Thanks to everyone involved with the organisation of the event and to the players for making it so enjoyable.

Whether you are playing in person, or online, your payment for the session will be handled electronically. C&NWBC uses BridgeWebs to record participation in games of bridge, which then results in deductions from your C&NWBC account balance.

The preferred method is via electronic advance payment, either an ad hoc bank transfer or a regular standing order to the bridge club account. Alternative methods of payment can be arranged with the Treasurer if necessary.

A single payment account can be used for a couple’s play at the club.
